Nan

It is with a heavy heart that we write this post. Dot (Judy’s Mom) AKA Great Mama passed away during the early hours of Sunday morning. She was such a huge part of our dance school, particularly behind the scenes – she spent so many hours sat next to Mom ‘cracking the whip’ as she’d call it!

Work was so important to Nan. So was Mareli. She was a trailblazer. Born in 1928, she gave birth to Mom in 1955 (I’m giving your age away Mom!) and returned to full time work just nine months later, which was uncommon in those days! Grandad worked full time too and had no problem pitching in with the housework and cooking! They built their own house and put half crown coins in the corners for ‘good luck.’ Nan was clever and kind, with a mischievous side (that I definitely inherited!)…Even when she was so poorly, she was more concerned with the comfort of the visiting nurses than her own. Thank you Nan for showing me that life can be shaped in many different ways. I miss you so much but am relieved you are not in any pain anymore.

For those of you who know how long it takes Mom to finish a Mareli timetable, here’s how I’ll remember Nan… Cracking the whip and crossing her fingers that the timetable was finally done!
